About Lesley Whyte
Since I was born, I’ve either been in front or behind a camera; it’s like photography is in my blood.
Capturing the moments of me growing up, my beautiful dad Jimmy made sure that every family moment was photographed including the family cats and dogs. In my teens, my Uncle Desmond handed me one of his cameras – a Rolleiflex Two & Quarter Square, I soon converted my parent’s bathroom into a dark room; the shower rail consistently doubled as a drying frame for my black & white photos.
In 2017, I was extremely fortunate to be one of 10 Auckland photographers mentored by industry luminary photographer Tom Ang as part of the “Connections – Peace.” Over five weeks, we artistically worked together, engaged the city with our individual photographic personalities and created an affectionate portrait of Auckland – City of Peace. Two of my photographs were chosen to be included in this exhibition displayed at Queens Wharf.
As a photographer, I now combine my passion to deliver photography tours, workshops, field trips and social photography events for women; working to develop each woman’s photographic passion in a fun, caring and social way.
